Steve Couch Chairman Introduction 15th Dec 2003

Steve Couch

Hello all,

It is an honour for me to follow in the footsteps of so many of our renowned friends that have graced this position as Chairman throughout the association’s long and distinguished history. It is with sadness that it took so long for the position of Chairman to be filled, the result of which has seen the Chair moving to Plymouth and the position being filled by a serving CPO.

I am confident that during my tenure, I will be able to count on the support that the membership has given throughout the past and hope that this will continue into the uncertain future.

It is now time to look long and hard at the association and to look to the future. I feel the association cannot continue in its present form and needs to evolve so it still has a place within modern day social habits. This may mean some quite dramatic changes that not everybody may agree with but I feel may well be needed. Rest assured that no decisions of this magnitude would be made without consultation and feedback from the membership.

As you are all aware, the branch celebrates it 50th anniversary in 2005. My first priority is to ensure that the association will be able to celebrate this unprecedented landmark. I ask the membership to give their full support to this occasion.

The new committee is now in place and I look forward to working with them all. Below is a list of the committee as of 15th Dec 2003.

Chairman                                  CPO (UW) Steve Couch          (Plymouth)

Vice Chairman                           Mr Bill Barrett (Portsmouth)

Treasurer                                  Mr Bill Bailey (Plymouth)

Social Secretary                         Mr Dave Gemmill (Plymouth)

Ex-serving rep                           Mr Andy Gleeve (Portsmouth)

It is only left for me to thank the outgoing Chairman Dave Williams. He has worked tirelessly ensuring the associations survival. His contribution to the association can never be underestimated and the committee will be poorer for his absence. I wish him and his family all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing him at future functions.
