S2087 Chief Instructor Maritime Warfare School

Anthony (Anth) was educated in the North East, Hampshire and finally the North East before joining HMS RALEIGH on 29 October 1990 as a Junior Seaman Second Class. On completion of basic training he was sent to the School of Maritime Operation at HMS DRYAD where he qualified as a Seaman RADAR. Drafted to the Leander Refit Group in Rosyth and then to HMS LONDON for an Armilla deployment.

In 1994 he was selected for Warfare Branch training and joined HMS COLLINGWOOD for conversion training and subsequently HMS DRYAD where he qualified as an Operator Mechanic (Underwater Warfare)1 Joining HMS BRAVE in Portland just in time for BOST. Deployments to OP GRAPPLE in the Mediterranean and then to the West Indies as the West Indies Guardship; saw him pass for and return to HMS COLLINGWOOD / HMS DRYAD for LRQC Course.

Qualifying as a Leading Operator Mechanic in early 1997 he was then drafted to

HMS WESTMINSTER with deployments to the Gulf and The Falklands including a spell in Sierra Leone during OP Basilica in early 1999. Returning to HMS DRYAD in 2000; spending 6 months as a Flint Squadron Leading Hand before being crash drafted to

HMS RICHMOND for a SNFM deployment, drafts to HMS ST ALBANS from build through commissioning, ferry collision, BALTOPS and OP CALASH and HMS WESTMINSTER for a second time including the initial fit of S2087 before selection for promotion to Petty Officer.

Six months as the Guard Commander at HMS COLLINGWOOD in 2005 preceded POQCs and SRCC before he Joined HMS LANCASTER as a PO(WS)(UW) in 2006, deployments to the West Indies and OP TELIC separated by the final S2031 Towed Array activation culminating A very Successful activation.

Anth then spent two enjoyable and intense years as a Staff Instructor at the Royal Navy Leadership Academy; instructing Senior Rates Leadership Course and Junior Officer Leadership Courses. Selected in September 2010, he was promoted and drafted to HMS NORTHUMBERLAND as the CPO(WS)(UW) in June 2011. Bringing the Ship out of upkeep, through Sea Trials, BOST and then an OP KIPION deployment prior to joining the Maritime Warfare School as the S2087 Chief Instructor in May 2013, responsible for overseeing all S2087 training and the ASW Battle Managers Course.

Married to Amanda-Jane, they reside in Fareham with two Jack Russell Terriers and a goldfish. Weekends are spent bread baking, chilli cultivating and pursuing outdoor activities mostly of an equine nature.
