Lieutenant Commander T R Leeder

Lieutenant Commander Tim Leeder was born in Norwich and educated at Wymondham College School in Norfolk. He joined the Royal Navy in 1999 for initial training at Britannia Royal Navy College, Dartmouth.

On completion of initial training he navigated HMS CHIDDINGFOLD in 2001 conducting both fishery protection patrols and live mine hunting operations in UK waters. He was then appointed to HMS GRAFTON as OOW, for its Telic 2 patrol in 2003 before joining HMS EDINBURGH as the Navigating Officer after successful completion of FNO course. After two very enjoyable years as navigator he was selected to Command HMS PUNCHER and London URNU, on completion of intermediate Command and Staff course. During this time he started to study for his masters in Defence leadership something that will be completed by the start of 2015

In October 2009 he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and after a short spell with the NCHQ Continuous Improvement team he attended PWO training at COLLINGWOOD, where notably his course was the last to conduct live PWO firings and conduct simulator training at COOK. Graduating in 2011 he joined HMS DIAMOND as PWOU and later OPS, conducting her inaugural BOST, DCT and Kipion deployment. Whilst deployed he was integral to T45 TACDEV in both Gulf ASW and their interoperability and incorporation into the Gulf Air Defence architecture.

He joined FOST as a SWOUW in March 2013, before taking over the role as SO2 Phase 3, where he oversees planning and execution of mission specific training for both UK and NATO units.

Married to Madelaine, they have two Sons (11 and 8) and live in Lee on the Solent.

SWO UW to FOST

Lieutenant Commander James Lovell

Lieutenant Commander Lovell joined the Royal Navy as a Direct Graduate Entrant in January 2001, having attained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Politics and International Relations at the University of DeMontfort, Leicester. Post junior Warfare officer professional training; he joined HMS KENT as Officer of the Watch in 2003, conducting infrastructure protection patrols in the Northern Arabian Gulf, following the second Gulf War, remaining with KENT as the ShipÕs Communication Officer, where he conducted patrols in the Mediterranean. On completion he joined HMS SEVERN, conducting numerous fishery protection patrols, with responsibility for the Executive function as the First Lieutenant. Following this two years in the Fishery Protection Squadron 2007, he joined the Naval Training Team, Umm Qasr Iraq. Here he had direct responsibility for the generation of Iraqi Navy patrol boats, training Command teams for operational patrols, protecting Iraqi offshore oil infrastructure.

After the completion of ICSC(M) in 2008, he qualified as a PWO in 2009 and joined HMS RICHMOND as PWO(U) to Captain ASW. He then spent 2 years as PWO(U) and then Operations Officer, in a programme that included a 7 month deployment to the Middle and Far East, including counter-piracy patrols with EUNAVFOR under Operation Atalanta. On completion of this appointment he qualified as an AWO(U) and joined SNMG2, deployed in a Turkish OHP east of suez, responsible for the force planning of the NATO counter-piracy effort under Operation Ocean Shield. Lovell joined FOST(S) in 2012 as a SWO(UW) and has been the lead in the training generation of the Royal NavyÕs Area ASW capability.

He lives in Hampshire with his wife Becky and 2 young children.
